Juvenile Offenses
Whenever someone is a minor, they have certain restrictions on their liberty and do not have some of the same rights that adults do.
Under NJSA 18A:38-27, it is illegal for anyone under age 16 to skip school and this is a status offense that will trigger proceedings in juvenile court.
When someone a juvenile is charged with an indictable, disorderly persons, or petty disorderly persons offense, they are entitled to the same legal rights as an adult in court and in the police station during questioning.
